The man was arrested 44 miles away in Stoke-on-Trent at around 9pm last night.

Birmingham Police said CCTV enquiries led them across the border into Staffordshire as part of their investigation.

The man will be taken to the West Midlands for questioning today, cops said.

Nothing could be done to save Yordanos, originally from Eritrea, when she was found and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Jim Mahon said: “We believe the suspect was known to Yordanos but the exact nature of the relationship is unclear at this stage.

“Over the weekend we appealed for family members or people who knew Yordanos to come forward and I am pleased to say we have now heard from several people.

“This arrest is a significant step forward in our investigation but I would still like to hear from anyone who knew Yordanos, or has any information that could assist, to come forward.”

Anyone with information has been asked to call 101 quoting log 765 of 31/7.

Police said information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
