Arrest over attempted burglary at Manchester United star’s Cheshire mansion
POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted burglary at Wayne Rooney's £6 million mansion.
The 24-year-old suspect, from Scarborough, was arrested today over the break-in bid at the Manchester United star's Cheshire pad last week.
Rooney's home, which he shares with wife Coleen and sons Kai, Klay and Kit, was targeted while he played his testimonial match at Old Trafford last week.
At least one masked raider descended on the sprawling mansion while the family were out on August 3, triggering its elaborate security system.
Police rushed to the property in Prestbury after the alarm sounded to carry out a full search of the area.
A Cheshire Police Spokesman said: "Officers investigating an attempted burglary in Prestbury have arrested a man in relation to the incident.
"The 24-year-old man was arrested earlier today on suspicion of attempted burglary.
"The arrest relates to an attempted burglary that occurred at approximately 9.00pm on Wednesday 3rd August at an address in the Chelford Road area of Prestbury.
"The man, who is from the Scarborough area, is currently being held in police custody where he is assisting officers with their inquiries."
England Captain Wayne was said to be "deeply shocked" by Wednesday's events.
Neighbours described the scene as "like something out of an action film" as police pounced on the masked raiders.
