THE script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has become the best-selling script of all time and Britain’s fastest-selling book in a decade.
In total more than 850,000 print copies of the book were bought in the UK in its opening week.
The release accompanies the London play, which revisits Harry Potter 19 years after the last film and focuses on his youngest son Albus who struggles to deal with the pressure of his dad’s legacy.
It is the fastest-selling book since the seventh novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released in 2007, when it sold over 2.5million copies of the children and adult editions in its first week.
Fans eagerly bought novels in the original Harry Potter series in the lead up to the play's release with the Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets notching up to positions 32 and 58 respectfully.

The entire series plus companions are all said to be in the Top 200 bestsellers for the week.
A spokesman for data analyst company Nielsen Bookscan said the increased popularity in the original series was due to "the unique pairing of the play that premiered at the West end that has been notorious for selling out within hours."
So far, J.K. Rowling has sold a whopping 33 million Harry Potter books in the UK worth a cool £259 million in sales.
Better still, Potter mania in the U.S. has shifted 63 million copies while in Australia 5.5 million copies have been sold.
