Disgusting picture shows a COCKROACH crawling over dish at an award winning Indian restaurant
Widespread infestation posed an 'imminent risk of injury to public health'

A DISGUSTING picture shows a cockroach crawling in an empty food dish at an award-winning Indian restaurant.
Environmental health officers found live cockroaches between microwaves, inside fridges and near unprotected food at Rimjhim curry house, in Port Solent, Hampshire.
Inspectors moved in to check the restaurant following a tip-off from a customer who had spotted a cockroach crawling on a wall, while he ate his meal.
Prosecutor Jenni Ager told Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court: “That led to the serving of a hygiene emergency protection order, requiring the restaurant to close immediately.
"This was due to an imminent risk of injury to public health with the widespread cockroach infestation still in place."
The popular restaurant, which was awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2012, 2013 and 2014, is owned by Muhammad Rahman, 21, of Portsmouth.
He admitted five charges relating to contravening EU provisions concerning food safety and hygiene on behalf of the company and as an individual.
The charges included not having good enough processes in place to deal with pests, raw ingredients not being protected from infestation and the premises not being kept clean and well maintained.
Rahman also admitted that floor surfaces were not properly cleaned.
The restaurant was fined £6,000, told to pay £1,200 in costs and a £600 victim surcharge.
On top of this Rahman was handed a £260 fine, ordered to pay £260 prosecution costs and a £27 surcharge.
A further check carried out a week before the case came to court showed there was still an insect problem. The restaurant must prove the infestation is under control before it can open again.
