AIR BRAINED

Ryanair passenger who was filmed chasing holiday jet down runway was running after the WRONG PLANE… and still had an hour until his left

Cesar Saucedo's flight had actually been delayed and left Madrid airport an hour after his panicked attempt to flag down the jet

A MAN filmed running along an airport tarmac desperately trying to flag down a departing plane was chasing the wrong jet, it has emerged.

Cesar Saucedo, 24, panicked when he thought his flight was leaving Madrid airport - though it was actually delayed and left the airport an hour after the incident.

The bizarre video - showing him carrying hand luggage as he scurries across the highly-restricted docking zone - made headlines earlier this week.

It has now emerged Bolivian-born Cesar was on his way to visit his mother in Gran Canaria, his brother-in-law Juan Diana told .

He said: "What hasn't come out is that the two airport workers you see him talking to after he's run across the airport towards his plane escort him to a seating area inside the terminal.

"It turned out his flight was leaving an hour later on the dot. He had time to change his T-shirt after his run while he was sat down and board his flight to Gran Canaria with the other passengers."

He now faces a fine for breaching airport security, it was reported.

In the footage Cesar first appears to jump from the gangway to the plane which has already become detached from the aircraft.

Wearing a green t-shirt and dark shorts he runs from the terminal building towards the plane carrying two pieces of luggage.

He then appears to try to hop onto an airport buggy but looks to be refused.

Scrambling for his bag the man breaks into a run and is met by what looks to be two members of airport staff as a plane preparing to take off is seen on the runway behind.

The video – which has been shared nearly 6,000 times - then cuts off.

A Civil Guard spokesman in his destination - Gran Canaria - said he was stopped when he reached the holiday island and identified so he could be reported for an airport security infraction.

The spokesman said: “He breached a range of security measures when he saw he was going to miss his flight and despite the efforts of ground personnel to stop him, managed to run across the tarmac as the plane was preparing to taxi out to the runway.”

A source close to the case said he was a Bolivian national who was believed to have been travelling alone.

He said: “He wasn’t arrested but he was identified so his name could be passed to Guardia Civil officers in Madrid for them to take the appropriate action.

“They didn’t manage to identify him in Madrid. The pilot presumably agreed to let him on board because he had a boarding pass but he was lucky not to have been stopped in Madrid because we’re currently on terror alert level 4 and he could easily have been mistaken for a terrorist with all the consequences that come with that.

“The man in question is now likely to face a very high fine.”

A spokesman for Spanish Airports Authority AENA said Cesar had broken a firm alarm in an apparent diversionary tactic.

He said: “The incident happened around 9pm on Friday. We called the Civil Guard in after he breached security and broke a firm alarm before reaching the tarmac.

“We don’t know what happened after the Civil Guard were called. The only person who can answer the question of why he acted like he did is the man who protagonized this incident.

“It is definitely a first for this airport.”

Hundreds of people have commented on the video with one writing: "What did he think was going to happen? That they'd just pull up some stairs and let him board!? Hahaha."

Another joked: "It’s just like missing a bus."

A spokesman for Ryanair said: "Since this video relates to a security breach at Madrid Airport, it’s a matter for Madrid Airport Police."
