Child killer Colin Pitchfork roams free after 33 years just yards from school pupils

CHILD killer Colin Pitchfork revels in his first taste of freedom for 33 years — as school pupils play just yards away.

Wearing a flat cap and glasses, the slimmed-down monster, 61, stepped out of his bail hostel for a stroll after being freed from jail last week.

A source said: “Just the thought of Pitchfork walking among children is terrifying.”

Tonight Rebecca Eastwood, whose sister Lynda Mann was his first victim, said: “Why has he been placed near a number of schools?

“I just hope the pictures will mean people will now be able to be on their guard.”

Pitchfork raped and murdered Lynda, 15, in Narborough, Leics, in 1983, and Dawn Ashworth, also 15, in nearby Enderby in 1986.

He was driven from Leyhill open prison, Gloucs, under cover of darkness to the probation hostel in the South of England on Wednesday.

The terms of his licence include a ban on approaching children.

A source added: “The hostel has a small garden, a pool table and it’s in a reasonable area.

“The management run cooking clubs each week for the residents and even have Bake Off competitions.

“But it seems a really unsuitable place to house him.

“There’s three primary schools just a stone’s throw away and two nurseries nearby.”

Whitehall sources said Pitchfork’s GPS tag would help monitor him to keep the public safe.

Evil on loose

The Sun Says, Opinion

THE scandal of Colin Pitchfork’s release gets worse.

Not only is it extremely doubtful a double child sex killer can ever be safely released, even after 33 years’ jail. Now he’s been housed a stone’s throw from schools and nurseries.

“Keep your children safe,” warns one victim’s sister, grimly. And parents will.

But even if the Ministry of Justice considers Pitchfork no longer a threat, did officials ever consider families’ feelings before placing a monster in their midst?
