At the military academy almost 500 have graduated under a new scheme

SANDHURST is ditching its snooty image to train more working class Army officers.

Almost 500 plucked from the ranks have already graduated under a new scheme at the military academy.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon yesterday saluted the three-month potential officer development course.

He said: “This Government is determined to help everyone get on in life whatever their background.”

Kidane Cousland, unable to read until aged 12, won Sandhurst’s Sword of Honour for best cadet.

He is now a Royal Artillery second lieutenant.

He said: “It’s an achievement that I thought would be impossible before.”
