When did Gabby Petito go missing?

Gabby was last seen on August 24, 2021, checking out of a hotel with her fiancé Brian Laundrie in Salt Lake City, Utah.

While Gabby's mother, Nichole Schmidt, revealed that she heard from her daughter on August 27 and 30, she told  she is not sure if it was actually her as only text messages were exchanged.

"It was just a text. I did not verbally speak to her," she told the media outlet.

"I can't say much, but she's no longer with the van. I don't want to say anything more than that but for people looking for her, I want them to look for her now, not look for that van anymore."

Following the unusual circumstances, Schmidt then reported her daughter missing on September 11 at around 6.55pm sparking a nationwide search for the missing woman.

The remains were later discovered in Grant Teton National Park, where she had been camping with her fiancé when she disappeared.

Where was Brian Laundrie found?

On September 1, Brian returned home from the couple’s cross-country trip and had hired an attorney but was not cooperating with the police.

On Friday, September 17, his attorney then confirmed his client was missing and the FBI were trying to locate him.

After the discovery of the body, the FBI searched his home for evidence involving the case and his whereabouts.

Brian was being hunted by the FBI after an arrest warrant was issued for the 23-year-old.

As of September 28, 2021, Brian's location was still unknown.

However, on October 21, it was confirmed that human remains were found in the search for Brian Laundrie at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

that "skeletal remains" were found near a backpack and notebook belonging to Brian in the reserve.

Brian's remains were officially identified on October 21, 2021, after an extensive search at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

The FBI released a statement regarding the find, saying: "On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve and the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie."

The family lawyer, Steven Bertolino confirmed that Brian's parents were informed of the finding, saying: "Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are indeed Brian’s.

"We have no further comment at this time and we ask that you respect the Laundrie’s privacy at this time."

Following his disappearance, Brian's parents issued a statement through their lawyer stating that they don't know where their son is despite speculation that they were helping him avoid police.

Chris and Roberta Laundrie do not know where Brian is. They are concerned about Brian and hope the FBI can locate him. The speculation the parents assisted Brian in leaving the family home or in avoiding arrest on a warrant that was issued after Brian had already been missing for several days is just wrong,“ the Laundrie's attorney Steve Bertolino said.

Celebrity bounty hunter Dog the Bounty Hunter also got involved in the search and was determined to locate him.

On Nov. 23, 2021 it was revealed by the autopsy report that Brian Laundrie had died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Laundrie's death has also been ruled out to be a suicide.

Gabby Petito's family has not yet made any comments regarding Brian's death.

The family released a statement that said the following:

"The Schmidt and Petito family has been aware of the circumstances surrounding the suicide of the sole suspect in 's murder," the statement began.

"Gabby's family will not be making a statement at this time due to the request of the United States Attorney's Office and the Teton County Prosecutor's Office.

"The family was asked to not make any comments and let the FBI continue their investigation. The family was also asked to wait for the United States Attorney's Office to make a determination on whether any additional individuals will be charged.
