Mum’s shock as scented Yankee Candle EXPLODES on windowsill during her kids’ sleepover party
Terrified mother heard "loud bang" as scented wax was blown across her kitchen
A TERRIFIED mum has told of her horror after a Yankee Candle EXPLODED while her young son was having a sleepover.
Kerry Deigan, from Glasgow, Scotland, had lit the scented candle and placed in on her kitchen windowsill before she heard a "loud bang".
Ms Deigan added: "My son was having a sleepover at the time with four other children when it happened.
"When I heard the loud bang, I assumed one of the children had knocked something over and smashed it.
"I ran into the kitchen and that was when I saw that the candle had exploded."
The "cherries on snow'" scented candle burned through her windowsill which will have to now be replaced.
The hairdresser says she does not yet know how much it will cost, but thinks it will be "substantial".

She added: "I have Yankee candles and Yankee plug ins in every room of my house and even in the air freshener in my car.
"But I will not be using this brand again."
Kerry contacted Yankee Candle to complain and was told the candle exploded because it had "completed its burn".
A spokesman for the company said: "All of our products are designed to burn leaving at least 1.5 cm of wax at the bottom of the jar.
"This is for health and safety reasons; to stop the candle overheating and burning through to the surface it is placed upon and to prevent the metal wick holder being lit instead of the wick itself.
"If the candle is relit after this point, the candle will overheat and may cause the results [Kerry] has experienced and any crack or explosion will be from the bottom of the jar as seen in the photos."
The spokesman added that customers should also place a candle on a "heat resistant surface" such as one of its "specially designed plates" that can be bought in stores.
Kerry added: "I have not yet replied to Yankee Candle's response but never when purchasing a candle have I been advised to buy a plate to stop them exploding."
No compensation has been offered by Yankee Candle and Kerry was advised by the company to "claim on her house insurance immediately."
