Fern Rock shooting: ‘One dead and five injured’ in Philadelphia after gunfire erupts in drive-by

A BROAD daylight drive-by shooting in Philadelphia reportedly left one person dead and five injured on Monday.

According to , the deceased is reportedly a 27-year-old male; the other victims are also in their 20s.

The five wounded were reportedly transported to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition and are expected to survive.

Police responded to the scene at ’s Fern Rock neighborhood shortly after 3pm.

The broke out near Broad Street and Chew Avenue, located down the block from two high schools.

It's unclear if both schools, Central and Girls High School, are on lockdown at this time due to the close proximity to the shooting and the scheduled dismissal times after 3pm.

Police said that at least 18 shots were fired at the scene.

According to Deputy Commissioner Joel Dales, the shooter was believed to be in the backseat of a Chrysler 300 with dark-tinted windows when the gunfire rang out.

"The vehicle was traveling eastbound on the 1300 block of West Chew Avenue from Broad (Street) when the shooting occurred," Dales said.

"It's a busy area. Thank God that children were not out when the shooting occurred."

Officials are still investigating the motive of the shooting.

There was no initial word on an arrest or whether any weapons were recovered from the scene.

Police said they are searching for multiple suspects.
