WHAT started out as an ordinary day, turned into a parents worse nightmare after the Jeffersontown High School in Kentucky was placed on lockdown.

Is Jeffersontown High School in Kentucky on lockdown?

Jefferson County Public School spokesman Mark Hebert told , the high school was on a heightened security alert, which some districts call a lockdown.

Officers had reportedly been searching the building room by room for a “person of interest.”

At around 1:30pm, staff and students were seen being escorted out of the school with their hands over their heads in a single-file line.

Why was the high school placed on lockdown?

The lockdown came after reports of an “active aggressor.”

LMPD Police Chief Erika Shields told that there was a report of someone who may have entered the school with a gun.

Louisville Metro Police Department later confirmed that the lockdown was caused after a former student had unlawfully entering the building.

The student was later taken into custody and the lockdown was lifted.

Have there been any school shootings during the 2021-22 academic school year?

With the 2021-22 school year starting back in August, there have been multiple incidents so far involving children bringing guns to school.

As of September 23, the gun-related incidents in schools include:

  • September 1: Shots were fired at that ended up
  • September 2: 3 students were detained in Montana after reports came in that they were planning a school shooting
  • September 10: A 13-year-old was arrested for threatening a school shooting at the Louisiana middle school
  • September 21: A 15-year-old was charged in connection to a that left two students wounded
