The senator's office shared the news in a statement on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, saying that he will get back to work "as soon as possible following doctors' orders," and that he is in good spirits, per the outlet.

Per NPR, the statement did not provide any additional details about Grassley's condition.

The Iowa senator underwent hip surgery in 2023 and "briefly used a scooter to get around," according to the publication.

However, Grassley "was long known for his daily early morning runs" and has "appeared otherwise healthy in the halls of Congress even as he became the Senate's only nonagenarian in September."
