Sadie Hartley’s daughter got engaged days before mum’s horrific murder by Sarah Williams

THE daughter of Sadie Hartley told her mum she was getting married just 24 hours before the businesswoman was stabbed to death, it can be revealed today.

Charlotte Hartley phoned home to share the good news that her fiancé had proposed while on a romantic holiday in Hawaii.

But her delight soon turned to despair when she discovered mum Sadie had been butchered with demonic savagery.

And anguished Charlotte was then stranded on the island for FOUR DAYS because all flights to the UK were full.

The 23 year-old has since told pals that she will “never be truly happy again.”

Sadie, 60, was paralysed with a cattle prod and stabbed more than 40 times by scorned Sarah Williams.

The mum of two was attacked when she answered the door at her £500,000 home in Helmshore, Lancs, in January 2016.

Williams, 35, who had plotted the slaying for 17 months, was jailed for life after being found guilty of murder.

Last night a family friend said: “Charlotte couldn’t wait to tell her mum that she was getting married.

“Sadie was made up at the news and was looking forward to planning for the big day.

“Charlotte was so happy and life was going great.

“But then everything suddenly changed.

“Telling her mum that she was engaged was one of the last times she ever spoke to Sadie.”

The pal added: “When Charlotte found out her mum had been murdered, she wanted to fly home immediately.

“But the poor girl couldn’t get a flight home for four days, which were the longest of her life.

“She just wanted to get home.”

Ian Johnston - the man who was planning his future with tragic Sadie - also spoke of Charlotte’s wedding torment.

He said: “Charlotte’s just got engaged and she’s not going to have her mum there to be at her wedding.

“The night after Charlotte got engaged, Williams murdered Sadie.

“The night after.

“She was in Hawaii.

“How on earth do you come to terms with that?

“So if there’s any horror in this, that’s where my horror lies.”

The family friend told how Charlotte is determined to focus on the future, adding: “She had so much to look forward to but it will always be tinged with sadness.

“At every milestone, she will be thinking her mum should be here to share it with her.

“Charlotte has said that no matter what happens in her life, she will never be truly happy again.”
