GIVE IT BACK

6,000 Sun Readers support our Give It Back campaign to reinstate vital funding for disabled kids

THOUSANDS of Sun readers urged Rishi Sunak to support our Give It Back campaign to find vital funding for disabled children.

Close to 6,000 signatories are calling on the Chancellor to “give back” the £434 million which has been cut from council budgets for social care and disabled children over the past decade.

The author of the letter Maureen Muteesa - whose 15-year-old son Calvin has complex medical needs and learning disabilities - delivered the letter on behalf of The Sun to Number 10 Downing Street today.

Mum-of-two Maureen, 44, from Thamesmead, South London, said: “It’s time for the Chancellor to do the right thing for families like ours and give us our money back.

“I have had to fight for every bit of support for Calvin and during lockdown we were left - at times - with nothing.

“Caring for him 24 hours a day was deeply stressful and the council failed to provide support.”

The Sun, together with the Disabled Children’s Partnership, launched the Give It Back campaign in June 2019 to demand the Government reinstate the funding.

The smiling teenager handed his mum Maureen’s letter - signed by more than 5,700 people - over to the Downing Street doorman today.

He said: “This is for the Chancellor asking if we can have our money back.”
