'KAREN ATTACK' PROBE 2

MP Simon Danczuk faces second police investigation for ‘attacking his ex-wife on holiday in Spain’

Rochdale MP spent two nights behind bars after estranged wife Karen was left bloody and bruised

SHAMED Simon Danczuk is facing a second police probe for allegedly attacking ex-wife Karen on holiday.

The Sun has learned that cops at Greater Manchester Police have received a complaint from a concerned member of the public and a senior cop has confirmed: "We are fully aware of the matter you refer to and we are assessing it."

Danczuk spent two nights in a Spanish jail cell after allegedly throwing Karen's mobile phone into the swimming pool at their apartment in Alicante and then trying to batter the door down after she locked herself and their two young sons inside.

He appeared in court but walked free after she refused to press charges and has now returned the UK.

This week a member of the public from Danczuk's Rochdale constituency complained to police about the allegations.

In a letter to police he said he was "concerned" that Karen may have been "pressured" into not pressing charges and added: "I believe that it is possible for police in this country to investigate allegations of domestic violence committed abroad.

"I would therefore like Greater Manchester Police to pursue an investigation into the allegations and request the file from Spanish police."

He adds: "Any allegation of domestic abuse is an extremely serious matter.

"The fact that allegations have been made against a sitting Member of Parliament makes it, in my view, even more serious.

"I believe that Greater Manchester Police should be looking into these allegations as soon as possible."

In an email response - seen by The Sun - Chief Superintendent Chris Sykes said: "We are fully aware of the matter you refer to and we are assessing it."

In 2012 Prime Minister David Cameron signed up to new laws tabled in the Council of Europe's Convention on Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence.

The convention - which came into force in 2014 - decreed that those suspected of crimes in another country can be prosecuted in the UK if the case cannot be brought to trial in the country where the allegations took place.

The PM's official spokesman said at the time: "Millions of women across Europe suffer from violence and abuse.

"By signing this convention, we are ensuring that British offenders who commit offences abroad will face justice in our courts.";

As reported in The Sun on Thursday Karen, 33, was spotted with nasty cuts to her arms and chest after claims of a boozy bust-up with her MP ex — over a Spanish waiter.

Furious Simon, 49, is said to have smashed a window as he accused his estranged missus of getting too close to the hunk.

The pair apparently argued over her constantly messaging her new special friend when they were supposed to be on a family holiday with their kids.

A neighbour said the shouting match at their apartment ended with the Labour MP for Rochdale hammering the window and Karen was injured by flying glass.

Mr Danczuk was suspended by Labour after sending sex texts to a girl of 17.

He also admitting to romping with a woman, 22, on his constituency office desk.

A spokesman for hisoffice said: "This was a private matter between Simon and Karen which has since been resolved amicably. The authorities have confirmed that no further action will be taken.

"The MP will not be commenting any further on this matter."
