2021 marks the 43rd event which will be held at Maggie Daley Park in Chicago.
When is the Chicago Marathon?
The 43rd event will be held on October 10, 2021 and is expected to have more than 35,000 athletes competing from all 50 states and 100 countries.
According to the , the 26.2-mile course can be "easily navigated" by using the Chicago Transit Authority’s “El” train.
Runners will start in Grant Park at the intersection of Columbus Drive and Monroe Street and finish on Columbus Drive south of Balbo Drive in Grant Park, running through 29 different neighborhoods.
Those who can't make the event in-person can watch at home live on NBC 5 Chicago.
This year's event also marks the first race back following the start of the .
When was the first Chicago Marathon race?
The first-ever Marathon was run on Saturday, September 23, 1905 and saw an upset after Rhud Metzner come from behind to beat the favored Louis Marks.

Despite success in 1905, the early 1920s halted the event which didn't start back up again regularly until September 25, 1977.
Do runners get money for winning the race?
The 2021 event, sponsored by Bank of America, will see a prize fund of $500,000.
According to the sent out by the race, the 1st place winner will receive $100,000 with the remaining top five palaces also cashing out.

Runners also get time bonuses and if someone sets a new course record, then Chicago will give a $75,000 bonus for runners and a $5,000 bonus for wheelchair athletes.
As of 2021, the men's record is 2:05:37 while the women's is at 2:17:18.
