The 29-year-old had been filming the stunt for US action camera make GoPro when the tragedy happened on Wednesday, his team told the Swiss media.

The South Tyrolean's management confirmed his death with it reported the adrenaline-junkee had been filming a new video of one of his BASE jumps.

The young man had taken to Facebook just hours before his death, writing "ready to open a new jump" while at 10,170ft in the Dolomites, a mountain range in northeastern Italy.

Emanuele began his career as a parachutist but later became an online sensation for his videos of his death-defying leaps off mountains.

On Facebook, he said it was his job to find "places never jumped before and searching for new terrain flight lines."

He listed having done more than 60 jumps in 2016 alone, having started his career in 2011.

But it was a jump in 2015, of the young man soaring through the narrow crevices of the Swiss Lauterbrunnen mountains, that earned him a wide fan base.

The thrill-seeker meticulously planned the 2015 flight, which showed him fly through the crack not even 3m wide.

Tributes have now poured in on social media, with fan Edoardo Giglio writing on Facebook: "One of the best people I ever met.

"One of those few people that have the ability to expand your mind limits and make you see the world from a different point of view.

"Uli Emanuele you have always been my hero and you will forever be.

"People like you are very rare, extremely modest although insanely talented."

Another wrote the young man had been a ";legend".
