Disgusted single mum slams Morrisons after tot, one, ‘gets chemical burns from supermarket nappies’

A ONE-year-old boy was left screaming in pain after his Morrisons nappies gave him a chemical burn on his bottom, his mother has said.
Little Billy was unable to sit down and screamed every time he moved for two days after his mum Jo-Beth Dent used nappies from the £3.64 pack of 46.
The 25-year-old mum said she was left horrified when she wiped her son, drawing blood.
A few days later, a doctor confirmed a chemical in the nappies had caused a nasty burn, slowly eroding Billy’s skin.
Jo-Beth said: “Morrisons is only round the corner from me and after the second night of wearing them I changed his nappy and his bum was really badly red.
“It was getting worse and worse and I waited another few days before seeing the doctor who was shocked.
“It had turned into an open wound and the doctor confirmed that it was an open wound.
“There was no skin it was just shiny and there was blood when I wiped him.”
The single mum said she had bought the Little Big Stretchi Fit nappies from her local supermarket.
She said: “I felt so guilty and I felt like it was my fault, he was screaming and he had started crawling and when he sat down on his bottom he started crying.
“Obviously I had to clean him but it caused him so much pain to have his nappy changed.
“The doctor gave me some steroid cream to put on the nappy because his wound was so bad I couldn’t put the cream on it.”
Since the doctor’s diagnosis, Jo-Beth has been in touch with Morrisons who said there was “nothing they can do” about the burns which caused Billy hell for two weeks.
But the mum from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, is furious with the supermarket’s customer service and lack of sympathy for her son’s pain.
She said: “About two weeks after I had applied the cream it began to heal.
“After I had seen the doctor I rang Morrisons and was told they would get back to me but they didn’t reply until June, over a month later.”
She said the company had told her that the chemicals used in the nappies was used in a wide-range of products but she was desperate to know which chemical had caused it to avoid another problem.
Jo-Beth said: “About five days after that phone call from an executive and all they said there was nothing they could do about it.
She said: “I still shop in Morrisons for my food because it’s round the corner but I will never buy nappies there again.”
She said she would now buy her nappies from Asda and had been disgusted by the company’s customer service.
She said: “I was very sad because he was in such pain and I could not do anything to help.
“I had to change him more often than usual to try and keep him clean and stop the wound from being infected.
“At one point we couldn’t even take him out the house because he just screamed so much whenever he moved.
“It was awful, I felt so guilty.”
A Morrisons spokesperson said: “We take the safety of our nappies extremely seriously and ours contain materials that are tested carefully to make sure they don’t harm babies.
“Unfortunately, the customer has not been able to return their nappy so we can’t investigate it further but we can confirm no other customers experienced problems at the same time.”
