Who was Egypt Covington?

Egypt Covington was an Ann Arbor, Michigan, resident who lived in Van Buren Township in Washtenaw County.

She was well-known as a local singer in the community.

In addition to her creative skills, Covington worked at the Fraser’s Pub in Michigan.

According to , she also worked as an account manager for a wine and beer importer/distributor.

Following her death, the Arbor Brewing Co. released a seasonal beer named .

A portion of the company’s sales went to a foundation in her name.

How did she die?

Covington was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head by her boyfriend, Curtis Meadows, on June 23, 2017.

After an investigation, it was determined that Covington was killed by three men who targeted the wrong house while they were seeking to rob a neighbor who was said to have been growing marijuana.

Covington was found with her hands bound with Christmas lights and shot in the head at close range.

Authorities said they found a cushion with a bullet hole at the scene, which they believe may have been used to stifle the noise of the gun.

Following the investigation, Timothy Eugene Moore, Shandon Ray Groom, and Shane Lamar Evans were named as the primary suspects.

During court testimony, it was determined that the neighbor whom the men sought to rob was a licensed caregiver who kept medical marijuana in his home.

After Michigan State Police took over investigations from the Van Buren Police Department, Evans and Moore were arrested in November 2020.

Groom was taken into custody in December 2020.
