Yuusuf Warsame, eight, from Birmingham, died while visiting relatives in Biskopsgården, Gothenburg
A BRIT schoolboy has been killed in a grenade attack in Sweden last night, it has emerged today.
Yuusuf Warsame, eight, from Birmingham, died in the explosion in Biskopsgården, Gothenburg, where he was visiting relatives.
Police said five children and several adults were in the flat when the grenade was hurled through a window into the living room.
According to , police spokesperson Thomas Fuxborg said: “Someone was standing outside the apartment and threw a hand grenade through the window, into the living room.
“The boy was not part of the family registered at the address.”
He added: “This is abhorrent. From the outside it is impossible to know who is in the apartment.
“That it affects an eight-year-old completely innocent boy is despicable.”
Yuusuf’s devastated dad Abdiwahid Warsame today confirmed his son was killed in the horrific indiscriminate attack.
The dad-of-seven spoke to the to reveal two other people had also suffered minor injuries in the blast.
But the shop owner – who runs the Tawfiq Halal Meat and Grocery Shop in Whitmore Road, Small Heath – was so distraught he did not wish to comment further.
A family member told the same local paper: “The room Yuusuf was in when the attack happened was also occupied by our mother, sister and youngest brother.
“It is a miracle none of them were badly injured, they only sustained minor injuries.”
Yuusuf was born in Birmingham and went to Nelson Mandela Primary School in Sparkhill.
His parents, who have Dutch passports, and moved to the UK in 2001.
Cops in Sweden say they are unsure of the exact motive for the shocking attack.
It has emerged that a man convicted over a fatal shooting at a nearby restaurant last year was registered to the address where little Yuusuf was killed.
Two people died and eight were wounded when masked gunmen burst into the establishment and sprayed the room with automatic gunfire on 18 March last year.
Two men were sentenced to life in prison just two weeks ago for their part in the incident, described by prosecutors as a “pure massacre”.
Officers are reportedly looking into whether the two incidents are linked.
Organised crime is an increasingly serious problem in Gothenburg, with gangs employing brutal tactics as they battle for control of various areas.
One expert in Swedish organised crime even compared the city to the “Wild West”, according to The Local.
