Brit slammed by Italian papers after being caught on camera peeing in Venice’s iconic St Mark’s Square
The woman was snapped by a furious gondolier as he went past in his boat
THIS is the shocking moment a British tourist was caught weeing in one of the world’s most famous locations.
The woman dropped her trousers by Venice’s iconic St Mark’s Square in broad daylight and in full view of tourists and passers by.
Standing just yards from the luxury five star Hotel Danieli the woman was snapped by a furious gondolier as he went past in his boat.
A local shopkeeper said: “The gondolier shouted at her to stop and she swore back at him in English. She wasn’t very polite at all but I don’t blame him for having a go at her.
“There was a street of bars up the road and a public convenience nearby she could have gone in there. This sort of behaviour is ruining the city.
“Yes, we want tourists to come but we want them to have some class – last week I saw some people swimming in the canals which is not only banned but it’s dangerous as well.’’
The gondolier passed the photo a local newspaper which published it on the front page and called for visitors to behave themselves.
It came just days after fed up Venetians told the millions of tourist who visit the World Heritage city every year to get lost in a poster campaign blitz.
More than 22 million people, many of them British, visit Venice every year with the number of tourists visiting each day out numbering the locals.
Local councillors said they would be calling for an urgent meeting with Venice’s mayor to discuss the situation – once he returned from his holiday.
