Microsoft offers cash reward if you switch to its new Edge web browser

IN a bid to boost the popularity of its new web browser, PC giant Microsoft is offering CASH for people who switch over from Google Chrome.

Microsoft rolled out its latest Windows 10 update last July including its Edge browser to replace its ageing Internet Explorer software - but so far it has proved to be flop.

Since the launch last year many users have shunned the new browser, instead sticking with Google Chrome which continues to be the most popular choice as according to San Francisco-based firm Quantcast Google accounts for a whopping 70 per cent of activity from Windows 10.

As a result the computer giant is trying to tempt users over to Edge with a cash reward, reports the .

Those who sign up to Microsoft Rewards, currently only available in the US, will be given points for using the browser depending on how long they spend using it each day.

Points can be traded-in for vouchers or store credit in StarBucks, Skype, Amazon or advert-free Outlook.com.

Microsoft will monitor how much time you spend using the minimalist browser, with users required to hit 30 hours a month.

The US technology firm will also watch your mouse movements to make sure you're using the browser properly and not tricking the system.

And one more thing, you have to set Bing as your default search engine.

The news of the cash incentive comes just as Microsoft launches its latest big update for the Windows 10 operating system which includes updates to Edge including improved power usage, making it more energy efficient compared to its competitors.

Edge will also now allow you to immediately go to any URL address you post in its search bar with a nifty new "search and go" function, and will also be able to show the full history of any tab just by right-clicking the back button.
