Mum-of-one describes horrifying moment she bit into a Tesco Finest teacake and found she was chewing on a rat’s tail

A MUM-of-one was left disgusted after she bit into a Tesco Finest teacake and found she was chewing on - a RAT'S TAIL.

Sarah Mitchell, 34, had bought the sweet treat as part of an online shop she did last Thursday.

She decided to sit down to enjoy the £1.30 pack of four large teacakes with her two-year-old son Henry on Friday morning.

Sarah bit into her teacake but seconds later realised she was chewing on something that tasted unusual.

And she was left feeling sick when she pulled out what appears to be a rat's tail from inside the cake in her mouth.

Single mum Sarah contacted Tesco who told her the teacakes were not made on site and asked her to post them the specimen so they could launch an investigation.

But the marketing manager has decided to contact her local environmental heath team instead so a proper analysis can be done.

Today, Sarah, who lives with Henry in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warks., said the disgusting cake could have been fatal if her young son had eaten it.

She added: "I did an online shop because I didn't have the car and as well as getting the usual weekly items I thought I would buy the finest teacakes as a treat.

"I was sharing them with Henry when I took a bite and this long thin thing was in my mouth so I spat it out.

"I have no idea what it was but it looks like a little rat's tail or a bone.

"It felt rubbery and a bit bristly in my mouth, it was absolutely disgusting.

"It left me feeling nauseous and I had to take some tablets and have only just started feeling better now.

"Luckily it was me who had that teacake and it wasn't in Henry's because he would have definitely chocked on something that long and thin.

"It could have very easily been him and it could have been fatal.

"I have kept the teacake and the tail in my fridge because I wanted to make sure they were okay to be sent off for testing.

Sarah, who usually shops at Marks & Spencer, has vowed never to use Tesco again after the experience.

She added: "I rang Tesco and they weren't very helpful, they just told me they weren't made on site.

"Tesco said that they would send it off to be inspected but I am worried that there might be more or it get swept under the carpet.

"I am going to contact environmental heath and hopefully they will come and pick it up so it can be properly analysed.

"I'm just worried the whole batch of teacakes could be contaminated and other people might have the same problem.

"I would expect more from Tesco's Finest, nothing about my experience was fine and I will never ever buy anything from Tesco again."

A Tesco spokesperson said, “We have the highest standards for the food we sell and all our factories are rigorously checked, so we do not believe this item is a rat’s tail. However, we have asked Mrs Mitchell to return the product so we can investigate.”
