A BOY was savaged to death by a pitbull as his pal ran for help, yelling: “My dog has killed my friend.”

Jack Lis, ten, was at his friend’s after school when he was mauled by the beast, which is said to have terrorised locals.

Neighbour Tracey Lawrence said the panic-stricken friend had dashed out and raised the alarm.

She said: “The little boy that lives there ran over to the neighbour and said, ‘My dog has killed my friend’.

“My neighbour went and tried to push the door open but the dog had latched on to the boy’s leg.

"Everyone was out on the street crying.”

Kirk Wiegold battled to prise the American pitbull-type dog off the boy, but said it was “just too fierce”.

One of his relatives said: “He just wishes he could have done more but thinks it was too late.”

Flowers were left yesterday at the scene of Monday’s attack in Caerphilly, South Wales. Jack’s mum Emma, 32, right, also posted a heartfelt tribute.

She said: “Our beautiful boy Jack was taken so tragically yesterday.

“It was not our dog nor did it happen at our family home. He was out to play.”

She added: “We love you so much our sweet sweet boy.”

It emerged last night that the dog had only recently arrived in the area and had bitten a man outside a shop.

A neighbour said: “That was an absolute machine of a dog. I warned them not to have it out.

“It shouldn’t be legal that kind of thing. I think it was an American pitbull cross and I know it scared people.

“It seemed like an accident waiting to happen.”

Another local said the dog had “lunged” at their three-year-old son outside shops.

They added: “He was absolutely huge. He wasn’t a pet. He was taking the owner for a walk, you know?”

Shopworker Tarjit Sandhu, 67, claimed a local family had volunteered to look after the beast as a favour.

He said: “It is a fighting dog, an American pitbull.

'TOO TRAGIC FOR WORDS'

“A few days ago, it was tied up outside the shop where I work when a man customer bent down to stroke it.

"The dog bit him on the arm — it was quite a nasty bite.”

Jack, who lived in a neighbouring street, went to his friend’s house from nearby Cwm Ifor Primary School.

One neighbour said: “The mum wasn’t in at the time. You can’t even begin to imagine how awful it is.”

The school’s chair of governors Lindsey Whittle said: “It’s just too tragic for words. I’m in tears just thinking about what happened.”

Police said investigations were continuing, adding: “The dog was destroyed.” Chief Supt Mark Hobrough said: “We can confirm the attack did not happen in the house owned by Jack’s family, but inside another property on a nearby street.”
