Jeremy Corbyn faces further embarrassment after he is caught lying about his support from Bernie Sanders

The Labour leader claimed Bernie Sanders had sent a message of solidarity but aides close to US Senator rubbish the claim

JEREMY Corbyn has been drawn into another embarrassing row after being caught lying that he had received a supportive message from US Senator Bernie Sanders.

Aides to Mr Sanders denied sending Mr Corbyn a message, adding the “senator doesn’t intend to get involved in British politics”.

The aide said the politician - who failed to beat Hilary Clinton for the Democrat presidential nomination - has "a lot of respect" for Mr. Corbyn and "wishes him well”.

On Monday Mr Corbyn told his supporters at a phone bank in Walthamstow, East London that he had received a message from the left-wing American politician.

He said: “We had a message yesterday from Bernie Sanders, saying that they condemned him because he wasn’t electable.

“And he said the reason they condemned him was because he was electable.

"And he represented a threat to the establishment within the USA.

“So I think you can see the parallels that are going on there.”

A spokesman for the Corbyn campaign told the Huffington Post: “Jeremy was misinformed by an aide, who had wrongly been led to believe this was the case.”

Bernie Sanders lost to Hilary Clinton by more than three million votes.

The latest gaffe comes just after the "traingate" controversy.
