A YOUNG Pakistani woman is fighting for her life after her own father and brother-in-law allegedly tried to stone her to death in an attempted honour killing.
Shakila Khan is now recovering in hospital under armed guard after her male family members found her with a local man in the Swat Valley, in Pakistan.
Believing the 22-year-old had been having an affair with the man, Shakila's brother-in-law locked the couple in a room before calling for her father on Wednesday.
The pair then strung up both Shakila and the local man, a 27-year-old man called Bilal, proceeding to batter them with stones.
The furious pair were so violent in their attack that Bilal was killed with it reported the men believed they were justified by Sharia Law.
Shakila's husband was away on business at the time of the attack.
The men reportedly handed themselves into local police with authorities now investigating the murder and attempted murder.
A local : "Her life is in danger and her family has disowned her according to Shari Law. It is utterly heartbreaking as she has no support.
"The hospital where she is does not have good facilities and she needs urgent treatment or she could die, as well as being under threat from relatives who believe she has committed a crime".
It is understood Shakila was visiting her uncle's home before she went to meet her male friend.
The attack happened not far from where women's rights activist Malala lived and was shot in 2012 in the Swat Valley.
It is not the first time men and women have been targeted in honour killings.
A Pakistani man admitted that he murdered Internet star Qandeel Baloch, a 26-year-old Instagram model, saying he had no regrets.
The young woman was strangled by her brother after he took issue with her social media posts.
Local news reported that the man had told police in a recorded interview that he had strangled her with a long scarf.
