Thousands of welly-wearing revellers trudged through mud today as the festival kicked off as rain clouds hovered over the event.

Some festival-goers struggled to wheel trolleys stacked with booze over the muddy ground at Bramham Park after a miserable morning.

More rain is expected on Sunday with temperatures dropping to just 14C during Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy’s co-headlining slot.

But at Reading Festival it was different story as revellers flocked to the campsite in just t-shirts and shorts.

Some even made their way by boat carrying crates of beer, but putting up their tents might be miserable as heavy showers and thunderstorms are forecast for tonight.

Tomorrow will remain dry and hit highs of 23C as Foals take to the stage for the headline slot, while Saturday will be cloudy but in the mid 20s still.

Met Office forecaster Grahame Madge said: "We have put a weather warning on Leeds from Saturday 3pm until Sunday 9am for rain.

"Around 20 to 40mm will fall on Saturday, which is obviously a lot of rain.

"It's a different story at Reading where it will be a little bit warmer with not much in the way of rain.

"Basically, those going to Leeds should make sure they pack their wellies and ponchos, while people at Reading can be a but more relaxed."
