Man and woman die after being trapped in car which ‘turned upside down’ in the water

A MAN and a woman have died after being pulled from a lake after they were trapped inside a car which plunged into the water.
Police confirmed the tragic deaths following a desperate rescue mission this afternoon.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the submerged car ended up on its roof after entering Hooe Lake in Turnchapel, Plymouth, earlier today.
The emergency services were called at 1.55pm after reports that the vehicle had left the road and entered the lake.
One onlooker said: "The car reversed and overturned in the Lake. Two people were trapped and I just hoped they would get out."

The man was given CPR by officers before ambulance crews arrived.
A woman was also recovered from the vehicle by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
John Wheeler, who lives close to the lake, told the : "I was here just as the ambulance and fire engines and everybody else arrived.
"I saw them diving into the water to the vehicle which was under the water.
"I saw several people around it and I gathered they couldn't get somebody out, or two people out, of the vehicle. It seemed like it was stuck."
A police spokesperson said: "Police officers administered CPR on the man before ambulance crews arrived at the scene. He [was] taken to Derriford Hospital.
"A woman was also recovered from the vehicle by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
"Both occupants of the vehicle are confirmed as deceased."
The emergency services, including air ambulance, HM Coastguard and lifeboat and Ministry of Defence Police, were at the scene earlier today.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
