Drink driver jailed for 16-months after police use 'stinger' to slash tyres and bring Mercedes to a halt
A MAN who drove at 120mph during a shocking cocaine and drink fuelled motorway pursuit with police has been jailed.
Cops had to use a "stinger" device to slash the front tyres and stop a car driven by father-of-one Kieran Philbin.
A court heard that after an evening of drinking 30-year-old Philbin took a friend's car.
He went on to drive the wrong way down a motorway and performed handbrake turns in a supermarket car park, the reported.
During the resulting police chase he collided with cop cars in a bid to evade them.
When police were eventually able to stop the car he refused to get out, forcing officers to break a window.

Earlier in the evening Philbin had been drinking with a friend and his partner at a restaurant.
Manchester Crown Court heard the group went back to the couple's home where Philbin became increasingly drunk, making lewd comments and behaving in a threatening manner.
Michael Morley, prosecuting, said: “It seems to have been a pleasant enough evening.
“But the defendant got more and more drunk and started behaving in an embarrassing way, making comments about finding his friend’s partner attractive.
“When he was rebuffed he became aggressive. He called her a s*** and said: ‘I will take your car, you know’.
“A little while later she noticed her car keys were missing.”
Philbin who had drunk and taken cocaine, was seen at a Tesco supermarket, in Greater Manchester, doing handbrake turns in the couple's black Mercedes at about 2am.
He went on to drive the wrong way down the M60 for two miles.
Cops initially decided it was two dangerous to chase Philbin, but later caught up with him on the M602.
During the chase, on Wednesday July 27, he reached 120mph and collided with police cars.
A stinger device laid by police punctured the car's tyres and he was stopped at 3.17am.
The court heard that self-employed plasterer Philbin has a number of previous convictions for driving offences and was banned at the time of this crime.
He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, theft, failing to provide a specimen and dangerous driving.
Patrick Williamson, mitigating, said: "This defendant has a frankly appalling driving record.
“It would seem that on a frequent basis from his youth to more recent times he has a habit of taking vehicles, driving while prevented by doing so by a court order and on occasion drinking to excess.
“That seems to be the case here."
Mr Williamson said Philbin, of Glaze Walk, Whitefield, denied making sexual advances towards his friend's partner, but said he was angered by what he perceived to be a "dismissive approach" after he spoke about his mother's ill health.
Judge Hilary Manley told Philbin: “This was a terrible piece of driving at extremely excessive speeds at a time of night when there were few motorists around.
"You were putting people at grave risk.
"At the age of 30, you are too old for this. Whatever your personal problems are, this is not the answer.
"It’s only a matter of time before you kill yourself or worse kill someone else.”
Philbin was sentenced to 16 months in prison, and banned from driving for five years
