IT seems that cats aren't the only pets that have nine lives -- after heart-stopping footage emerged of a pooch nearly being run over by a racing car.

The fortunate dog was whiskers from death as it ran along a rally track in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

It took a stunt worthy of a Hollywood movie to save it as the clip shows the speeding motor launch into the air over the blissfully unaware pup.

It can be seen happily running along the road in the middle of the Codasur 2016 rally in Bolivia.

Even as the lightning-fast car's loud engine roars behind it, the lucky dog doesn't dart from the dirt track.

It's only when the rally car driven by Uruguayan Fernando Zuasnabar is inches above its head does the dog check its run -- potentially saving it from being crushed.

After the car speeds off to continue the race the pup continues on its journey.

Luckily, a steward can be seen running towards it to bring it from the track to laughter from the stunned crowd.
