After chatting on Facebook, he invited Liptrot, 18, to join him at the lock-in at a local hotel.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that an argument broke out with Robert Taylor, who was driving Liptrot around, after Mr Williams said she could bring her female pal, but no male friends.

When they arrived at the hotel around 4am Ms Liptrot called Mr Williams and asked him to meet her outside.

Mr Taylor then took off at speed, hitting Mr Williams at 30mph and throwing him up in the air.

He was left with four broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, bleeding in his right lung and chest and a cut to his liver.

He also suffered severe bruising and a forehead wound that will leave a permanent scar.

They drove off and didn't call an ambulance.

Catherine Ellis, prosecuting, said: “He was deliberately brought into the roadway so that something could be done to him."

To cover-up their crime the pair hid the car and called insurers to say it had been vandalised.

Police later found it.

They were charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

They had earlier claimed that Mr Williams jumped out in front of their car, but in court Taylor admitted dangerous driving.

Liptrot's lawyer insisted that she was only aware of a plan to scare the victim.

Taylor has been jailed for 32 months and been given a three-year driving ban.

His car has also been confiscated.

Liptrot was sentenced to 22 weeks behind bars and handed a two-year driving ban.

The judge said that while legally she was not responsible, she was morally.

He added: “You took the positive decision to lure Mr Williams out of the pub.”

The incident left Williams unable to start his new job, referee football games and needing medication to be able to sleep.

He said: “I’m scared because I don’t know what else he is capable of, having already run me over.

"Believing I was going to die will stay with me forever.

"She has shown no remorse.

"She was laughing and smirking in court.”
