A whopping 280 baby girls were named Arya, after the mini assassin

Khaleesi

IT'S hard to find anyone who doesn't watch Game of Thrones.

And the epic fantasy television show seems to have had an influence on scores of parents when it came to naming their babies.

The most popular name for boys inspired by the series was Theon - after Theon Greyjoy - with 30, up from 18 the previous year, while 11 were named Bran, of the Stark family, up from four in 2014.

In a nod to mercenary fighter Sandor Clegane, nicknamed The Hound, there were six boys called Sandor - a rise from the four in 2014.

Meanwhile, five boys were called Ramsay - after sadist Ramsay Bolton - in 2015, up from none the year before.

And Tyrion, the humorous Lannister dwarf, was still quite popular with 14 mentions, although this was a fall from 17 the previous year.

Moving to girls, 280 were called Arya - after mini assassin Arya Stark - up from 244 the year before, while there were 11 called Sansa, also of the Stark family.

However, the alternative spelling, Aria, shot up 70 places from 170, clinching the final spot in the top 100.

Daenerys - of the Targaryen line - fell from nine in 2014 to six in 2015, however 68 girls were named Khaleesi, her regal moniker, up from 53 in 2014.

Surprisingly, three people seemed sufficiently enamoured with the scheming killer Ellaria Sand to name their daughters after her.

Meanwhile, four girls - the same number as in 2014 - were named Brienne, after the warrior of the Tarth line, while there were also four babies named Catelyn, in honour of the mother of the Stark family, up from three the previous year.
