Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin writes heartbreaking letter to parents from beyond the grave
Dad Bob only found the note this year after it fell from a book ten years after his son's death
A LETTER written by Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin to his parents in which he called them his “best friends” has just been discovered by his dad.
The tragic adventurer died after a stingray attack in September 2006 but his dad Bob recently found a note from Steve in which he praised their parenting.
The 44-year-old, who was known for his love of wildlife and daring stunts, wrote to his mum and dad, telling them how important they have been in building his happiness.
Bob only found the letter this year, in an unopened envelope which fell from a book during research for The Last Crocodile Hunter.
Steve wrote: “Probably one of the most unfortunate things in a 'bloke's life' is that it takes over 30 years to realise how essential you have been to build my character, my ethics and, most importantly, my HAPPINESS."

The letter continues: “At 32, I am finally starting to figure it out. In good times and in bad, you were there. Your strength and endurance to raise me will not go unrewarded. My love for you is my strength!”
He told Lyn and Bob: "For the rest of my life I will reflect on the unbelievably GREAT times we've shared and will continue to share. You’re my best friends!"
The hand-written note was in an envelope which read: "Please be happy to know that your strength and wisdom have been passed on."
Steve died in 2006 and was survived by wife Terri, son Robert and daughter Bindi.
The teenager went on to win Dancing With The Stars, which she dedicated to her dad.
The letter will be published in forthcoming memoir The Last Crocodile hunter: A Father and Son Legacy, later this year - just over a decade since his passing.
