POLICE have released shocking CCTV footage of a thug snatching a vulnerable OAP in broad daylight in a busy town centre.

Footage shows the suspect wearing black following the a 70-year-old woman in a red coat before grabbing her handbag and fleeing.

The suspect was pursued by a member of the public who managed to get the bag back but could not stop the man running away.

The victim had to be taken to hospital after she was robbed on the junction of Fore Street and Alma Place in Redruth, Cornwall.

Police released the CCTV as they appealed for help catching the callous thief who struck on the afternoon of Friday July 1.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Joanne Sodergren from Camborne CID, said: "We have released footage showing a bag snatch that took place on the junction of Fore Street and Alma Place in Redruth.

"The incident took place at just before 3.30pm on Friday July 1.

"The footage shows the suspect dressed in black following the victim in the red coat, who is a 70-year-old local woman.

"The suspect then grabs the handbag from our victim before fleeing. He is then subsequently pursued by both the victim and a member of the public.

"The brave member of the public who gave chase managed to get the handbag back but was unable to stop the suspect from fleeing the area.

"The victim was left shaken and attended hospital after suffering soreness of her arm and shoulder.

"The suspect is described as white man, heavy build with a paunch and he was wearing blue or slate grey hoodie with the hood up.

"The CCTV shows that there were a number of people in the area, and we are hoping that someone has information that can help us identify the suspect."
