A FLORIDA high school was placed in a code red lockdown after a 16-year-old student shot a classmate.

The Sanford Police Department revealed in a Wednesday , that a 16-year-old student shot the 18-year-old victim three times.
The shooter, identified as Da’raveius Smith, was arrested on the same day.
"Based on the preliminary investigation, Smith was arrested and charged with one count of Attempted Homicide Murder First Degree Premeditated, one count of Possession of a Weapon Firearm on School Property, one count of Firing a Weapon or Firearm Discharge on School Property, and one count of Disturbing the Peace Interfere with School Administration Function," police said.
The victim's name will not be released due to Marsy's Law exemptions.
In a , school officials confirmed the suspect was in custody after early reports indicated the shooter was on the run.
The school said: "We regret to inform you that a shooting occurred on/near campus. One student was injured and a suspect is in custody. This was an isolated incident."

Officials said the wounded teen was transported to a local hospital in stable condition after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the incident stemmed from a fight between Smith and the victim over a girl.
In a tweet, Sanford police reassured parents that the scene was contained and there was no active threat to the school.
Police recovered a 9mm handgun in the bushes near the school tennis courts.
The school district advised parents not to come to the facility as police investigated the incident.
Seminole High is the Seminole County school district's largest high school, with about 4,200 students.
Police Chief Cecil Smith stated on Wednesday: "The incident that occurred today is one that we prepare for but hope never occurs.
"We are grateful that there was no loss of life today; however, the gravity of what happened is not lessened.
"I am proud of the swift actions of the School Resource Officers and other law enforcement that immediately responded, provided air, and ensured the safety of the students on campus.
"Our focus now is making sure all aspects of the investigation are thoroughly addressed as charges are filed on the suspect."
