Horrifying moment aunt throws newborn nephew from hospital’s third floor balcony

THIS video shows the terrifying moment a jealous aunt hurled her newborn nephew from a third floor balcony at a hospital in India, and amazingly the infant survived.

Sarita Yadav is blaming her behaviour on a "voice in her head" and was told to throw the tot out of the window which was 30ft up.

The baby boy was being treated for septicaemia, in Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh in northern India.

Yadav and her husband Satish, took the baby to the private hospital after he fell ill.

The little boy's mother wasn't with them as she was too weak and was being cared for by her husband.

The CCTV footage shows the horrifying moment Yadav walked from the room to the balcony and hurled the infant off into the air.

She can then be seen returning to the room with a towel, to make it look like she is still holding the baby.

Speaking to reporters, she said: "It just came to my mind and so I flung him off the balcony.

"I do not know why I did it.

"A voice told me to do it and I followed it.

It was Mr Yadav, who is the guardian of the child and his uncle, who raised the alarm as he could not find the child.

He said: "I had woken up my sister-in-law at around 3.30 am to feed the baby.

"I washed the bottle and she fed him.

"Then we slept but when I woke up again at 5.30 am to check the baby, he was missing.

"I asked her where the baby was but she said she does not know.

"I immediately raised an alarm and called the ward boy.

"We searched for him everywhere but could not find him.

"I had just called the police when a ward boy informed of us of hearing the baby's cry.

"The baby was lying on the iron grille."

Pankaj Katiyar, who was working on the ward, heard the child's cries and rescued him.

Amazingly despite the fall the baby only suffered minor injuries - he is under observation in the Intensive Care Unit.

The ward boy had a broken leg after coming to the tot's rescue.

Sarita Yadav was later arrested by police under charges of attempt to murder.
