Who is Chay Bowskill and where is he now?

CHAY Bowskill was thrown behind bars after being found guilty of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend.

Angel Lynn was left paralysed and unable to walk, talk or feed herself after she fell headfirst from a van at 60mph.

Who is Chay Bowskill?

Chay Bowskill is a 20-year-old from Syston, Leicestershire.

His mum Kathy Norris told The Sun that Bowskill had been in prison twice, before his third incarceration.

In January 2022, Bowskill was found guilty of the 2020 kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend Angel Lynn.

He was also convicted of coercive and controlling behaviour and perverting the course of justice – but was cleared of causing grievous bodily harm.

The kidnapping ended with Angel falling from the moving van and sustaining life altering injuries.

Prior to this, it was revealed that Chay was part of a gang that burgled homes and stole luxury cars.

Allegedly, the gang broke into and robbed 41 homes across Loughborough and Leicester, and towns and villages across the county and wider region.

What happened between Chay Bowskill and Angel Lynn?

On September 27, 2020, Angel was found lying in the carriageway of the A6 near Loughborough with catastrophic injuries.

She suffered a fractured skull and substantial brain injuries, that rendered her unable to walk, talk or take care of herself.

Her boyfriend at the time Bowskill and his friend Rocco Sansome, 20, both denied kidnap but were found guilty following a trial on January 27, 2022.

Horrified jurors were shown CCTV of the moment Bowskill chased down the teenager after she had walked away from their argument.

The footage revealed Bowskill grabbing her from behind, lifting her up and carrying her back to the van.

As it travelled along the road at 60mph, Angel fell out of the van at around 10.45 am before she was found by an alarmed passerby.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and Angel was taken to hospital but – despite intensive medical intervention – she was left with life-changing injuries.

After the accident, her family revealed she was unable to talk, walk or look after herself and need 24-hour care.

However, the good news is that Angel has improved a lot since her ordeal in 2020.

Her parents were on BBC Breakfast in May 2023 and shared an update on Angel’s progress.

Mrs Lynn said: “She’s doing really well. She can write, she is taking small sips of drink and they [her physiotherapists] are standing her up now.

“They are really good. She gets a bit moody sometimes when she is being bent around but it’s doing her the world of good. She’s loosening up.”

How long has Chay Bowskill been jailed for?

On Monday, January 24, 2022, Bowskill was sentenced to a total of seven and a half years in prison and will serve half his sentence behind bars — three years and nine months.

Taking into account time already served on remand he will become eligible for release in June 2024. 

Angel’s family said they are outraged that Bowskill got just two years for the kidnap — even though the offence carries a maximum sentence of life.

They said they planned to call for a review of the kidnap sentence, saying it was “unduly lenient”.

After a complaint was lodged, the Court of Appeals judges overturned the sentencing and increased his sentence to 12 years.

Although it can carry a life term, kidnapping currently has no sentencing guidelines, which the family think worked in Bowskill’s favour.

Speaking to The Sun Online, Bowskill’s mum shockingly defended her thug son saying: “My son’s not a bad boy but he’s not a saint.”

She added: “Chay told me he’d finished with her. He didn’t want her to go so he went after her and picked her up and put her back in the van.

“Everyone is blaming Clay for her injuries but he didn’t cause them. 

“I can’t blame my son for her injuries, I need to protect him and stand by him.”
