'YOU CORRUPT B***ARD'

Killer’s courtroom outburst at police officer who claims he confessed to cold case murder

A KILLER cabbie accused of murdering a 20-year-old prostitute branded the cop who originally brought him to justice as a "corrupt b*****d".

Christopher Halliwell, 52, is already serving a life sentence for the murder of office worker Sian O'Callaghan who vanished after a night out in 2011.

He is now on trial accused of strangling Swindon sex worker Becky and burying her in a remote field in Eastleach, Gloucestershire, in 2003.

Former DS Steve Fulcher, who no longer works for the police, told Bristol Crown Court Halliwell had confessed to Becky's murder and led him to the "exact spot" where her remains were later found.

After Mr Fulcher suggested that Halliwell had other victims, the taxi driver, who is defending himself, told him: "It was a pleasure ruining your career. You corrupt bastard."

While discussing the day Halliwell was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping Sian in March 2011, jurors were told the killer was driven to Oxfordshire by cops to where the 22-year-old's body was later found.

Mr Fulcher asked Halliwell what he wanted to say. He said: "He replied 'I am a sick f*****' and he asked if it was too late to get help. I replied 'it's gone beyond that Chris'."

The court heard there was a pause and then Halliwell said: "Another one."

They, along with two other police employees, drove to a second location where Halliwell indicated there was another body and he could show them "the exact spot".

The killer had asked Mr Fulcher if he would like "another one" in exchange for a cigarette.

He later told the police officer that he had picked a prostitute up and had sex with her before strangling her to death, it was heard.

Mr Fulcher said Halliwell said: "I know you're not a psychiatrist but what is f****** wrong? Normal people don't go round killing people."

Later, Mr Fulcher asked: "Only these two?"

He says Halliwell replied: "Isn't that enough?"

"Yes it is," he answered.

Becky's semi-naked body was discovered 10 metres away from the location Mr Fulcher says Halliwell identified.

Mr Fulcher told the court he believes there could be other victims because the killer described a 5ft grave - but it turned out to be just six to eight inches deep.

The court was also told that the cabbie had scratches on his face and a sore hand hours after he allegedly murdered Becky.

He claimed he had been assaulted by a man for refusing to pick him up on the street because he was a private hire driver and that a fight had ensued.

Halliwell, formerly of Swindon, denies murdering Becky.

The case continues.
