BOOZE MISS

Teacher, 36, caught driving at four times the limit with 3 kids in her car on day she launched child-minding business

A DRUNK teacher was caught driving at four times the legal limit with three children in the car - on the day she launched her own child-minding business.

Mum-of-two Christina Manning has been banned from the classroom for at least five years after watchdogs said it was "more by luck than judgement" that no one was hurt.

The 36-year-old was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison for the shocking crime - although dodged custody after an appeal.

Judges heard Manning had been binge-drinking at a summer barbecue the night before getting behind the wheel.

The following day, she downed a large glass of wine in the afternoon.

She then set off in her Renault Megane with children aged 13, 10 and one in the back.

Cops who pulled her over in a primary school car park in Cheshire smelled alcohol on her breath.

She had a reading of 130 micrograms in breath - almost four times the legal limit of 35.

Manning spent the night in the cells before appearing in court the following day.

Pleading guilty to drink driving and being drunk in charge of a child under the age of seven, Manning told judges she'd had a wine as a "coping mechanism".

She was immediately jailed.

However, the prison term was reduced to a suspended sentence at a crown court just two days later.

BOOZY MISS IS BANNNED

At the time of the offence, Manning was working as a supply teacher at Princes Primary School in Liverpool.

And a panel of reviewers have now said she can't return to teaching for years to come.

Craig Underwood, who chaired the tribunal, said: “It was more luck than good judgement that nobody was hurt.

"This could have resulted in serious injury to a pupil or member of the public."

Sarah Buxcey, for the Education Secretary, said: “The panel finds that the conduct of Ms Manning fell significantly short of the standards expected of the profession.

“The findings of misconduct are particularly serious as they include a finding that involved driving with alcohol above the limit and being drunk in charge of a child under the age of seven.”
