Hapless husband bought spring onions instead of daffodils as a Valentine’s Day gift for his wife
A HUSBAND had a Valentine’s Day to cry for — after mistakenly buying his wife spring onions instead of daffodils.
Hapless John Musk, 53, came home with the pungent bunch of edible tearjerkers and told his bemused missus Donna to put them in water.
She resisted the urge to tell her husband of 25 years to shove his “flowers” somewhere else — and cooked with them instead.
Donna, 53, said: “He honestly didn’t know the difference.
“I know they look a little bit alike when they haven’t bloomed, especially when they both come with elastic around them and they’re both green sticks, but it’s still ridiculous.”
The mum of eight, of Syston, Leics, added: “It’s definitely one of the worst Valentine’s Day presents a girl could get. Our kids found it hilarious.
"To be fair to him, if the ones in the shop had started to bloom the yellow flowers he would have realised his mistake and grabbed them."
The onions were eventually used by Donna to cook with.
