Two worlds collide as super posh Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg says he would vote for Donald Trump if he could
Backbencher says in their wisdom Americans will come to the right decision
TORY backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg has endorsed Donald Trump to be the next American president – saying he “always votes for Tory candidates”.
The Brexiteer expressed his support for the controversial Republican, saying “I would almost certainly vote for Trump if I was American.
“I would always vote for Tory candidates in the United Kingdom and I would probably be Republican if I was an American.
“As I’m a British citizen I don’t have a vote so I don’t need to wrestle with this problem unduly.
“Unfortunately I don’t have a vote in the American election so I think the Americans will come in their wisdom to the right decision.”
Trump has been criticised for controversial policies including wanting to build a wall on the USA-Mexico border and stopping Muslims from travelling to the States.
When asked on BBC Radio 4’s Broadcasting House programme whether he would really back a candidate who might lead a party to “extremism”, Daily Express reports Rees-Mogg replied by attacking Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
