Writing on Twitter the Labour politician said: “Staff distressed to discover brick through office window in Wakefield this morning.

“No excuse for violence and intimidation in our democracy.”

The motive for the attack is not yet clear and there was reportedly no note on the brick.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed they are looking into it.

A spokeswoman said: "Police were called to an address on Cheapside in Wakefield at 12.50pm today, following reports that a brick had been thrown through a window.

"The building was unoccupied at the time.

"Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident."

It comes three months after Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered by being shot and stabbed in her constituency of Batley and Spen, West Yorkshire.

And two months ago former Labour leadership contender Angela Eagle had her constituency office bricked on the day she launched her bid to topple Jeremy Corbyn.

Labour backbencher Jess Phillips was forced to beef up security at the end of July after receiving death threats - and tweeted a picture showing a locksmith making the home she shares with her young children safer.

Despite calls for unity in the wake of the EU referendum result, numerous Labour MPs faced death threats at the start of the summer after resigning from Labour’s front bench in protest over Corbyn’s refusal to step down.

Speaking after Britain voted for Brexit, the Wakefield MP Mary Creagh , a former Labour frontbencher, admitted the party failed to get its pro-Remain message across to its core supporters.
