Portland shooting: One dead and five injured in attack ahead of protest over killing of Amir Locke
ONE person is dead and five others have been wounded in a shooting in Portland, Oregon, police have confirmed.
The shooting took place shortly after 8pm local time near Normandale Park in the Rose City Park area of Portland.
More than 20 police units and four fire crews responded to the scene, reported.
Two people are reportedly in custody, officials told the network.
The Portland Police Bureau said in a statement: "When officers arrived they located a female victim who was deceased.
"Additional shooting victims, two men and three women, were transported to area hospitals and their status is unknown at this time."
The shooting came moments before a rally was due to start at the park protesting the police-related shooting of Amir Locke.
Several protesters told they saw a person come out of a nearby home and confront a group of 50 demonstrators.

The person then reportedly opened fire on the crowd.
It was not immediately clear if more than one person used a weapon.
A flyer shared on Twitter noted the meet time was set for 7pm at Normandale Park and the march time was 8pm.
The park is home to ball fields, a playground, and a dog park.
Locke was sleeping when he was fatally shot by a SWAT team enacting a "no-knock" warrant on a Minneapolis apartment.
The Portland Police posted to their Twitter account that they've responded to a handful of shootings within the last few days.
An investigation is ongoing.
