It comes just weeks after we launched our bid to bring back the iconic travel document.

Mr Goodwill confirmed: “We are considering potential changes to the UK passport after the UK has left the European Union.

“At this early stage we have not undertaken a detailed cost benefit analysis or made any decisions about what a future UK passport might look like.”

We launched our campaign after Mr Goodwill earlier insisted there were “no immediate plans” to change the colour of UK passports.

Yesterday Mr Knight, MP for Solihull, said: “It’s really encouraging. A blue passport is a symbol of our independence.

“We might well have to wait until we leave the EU to get them, but I would like to see a clear commitment in place to bring back blue passports.

“This is as close as we’ve come to that, but I will keep pressing the officials until we do have that clear commitment.”

Brexit Secretary David Davis was yesterday quizzed on the issue by the Foreign Affairs Committee and replied: “I’m not into symbolism, I’m into delivery.”
