A WOMAN suffered agonising burns after a chip pan burst into flames in her hands.
Joanne Knight, 35, was showered with boiling oil trying to prevent a kitchen fire in her home.
Suffering a mixture of first, second and third degree burns to her hands, arms, legs and feet, Joanne described the pain as “horrendous” and told how she thought she would die.
She said: “You sort of wish you would die just so the pain will go away.
“I have lots of experience in catering and you just never think things like this are going to happen to you.
“The pain was horrendous, I just thought I was going to die.”
The accident occurred after Joanne accidentally switched the hob her chip pan was sitting on, causing it to boil.
After nipping outside for a cigarette, Joanne returned to discover her kitchen full of smoke and the pan overheating.

The former caterer was splashed with the boiling oil after she dropped the pan in a panic.
Joanne, who also suffers from the joint pain condition fibromyalgia, was looking after her niece when the incident occurred at her home in Clayton-le-Moors, Lancs on September 6.
Luckily the three-year-old was outside in the garden with her dad, Joanne;s brother, who alerted the ambulance service.
Doctors treating her burns at the Royal Preston Hospital said it will take many weeks for her to recover.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) has dealt with 316 chip pan fires in the county since the beginning of 2014.
Joanne is now urging others to ditch their old fashioned chip pans for something safer.
She said: “I don’t think places should be allowed to sell chip pans after what happened to me.
“If I can prevent one person from buying or using a chip pan after this then I’ll be happy.
“I am on high doses of morphine.
“The pain can be off the scale and at other times you just manage because you just can’t cry anymore.”
Joanne, who is currently unemployed but has previously worked in cafe’s and chip shops, is regularly having dead skin removed from her body to avoid it getting infected.
Doctors have told her she will need surgical skin grafts in the future.
