OLD GIRLS REUNITED

Childhood friends separated for 50 years thick as thieves again after moving into the same care home

Jean Such and Mary Worrall first met aged 7 and 8 when they were evacuees during the Second World War

TWO childhood friends who last met more than 50 years ago have been reunited after moving into the same care home.

Jean Such, 84, and Mary Worrall, 85, were evacuated together in World War Two from their homes in Kirkdale, Merseyside aged 7 and 8.

They also worked in an ICI factory together as teenagers, but then lost touch for half a century.

Last year they both suffered a fall around the same time and ended up in adjacent hospital beds.

Mary said that, after not seeing each other for 50 years: “We just couldn’t believe the coincidence that since being put on the same train to Winsford in 1939, we’d be put next to each other in hospital like that.

“It was really good having her there, especially as she kept throwing her ice cream onto my bed for me to eat.”

They were both discharged after a few days and separated.

Jean was moved into a care home and was lonely at first - but was shortly joined by fierce friend Mary

The inseparable pair even have adjoining rooms in their care home in Winsford, Cheshire.
