Man, 18, charged with attempted murder after girl, 15, in school uniform shot by ‘masked thugs’ at bus stop
A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a schoolgirl was shot by "masked thugs" at a bus stop.
Rio Jones, 18, was charged following the horrific attack on the 15-year-old girl on Tuesday in Toxteth, Liverpool.
The girl, who was in her school uniform during the attack, was shot in the upper body.
She was rushed to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Detective Chief Supt Mark Cameen, of Merseyside Police, said: "It is an absolute miracle, and credit to the NHS, that this young woman has survived.”
Now an 18-year-old has been charged with attempted murder, police confirmed.
Jones is in custody and will appear at a remand court today.
Merseyside Police said in a statement this morning: "We have charged an 18-year-old man following the shooting of a 15-year-old girl in Upper Warwick Street in Toxteth on Tuesday, 1st March.
"Rio Jones, of Jermyn Street, Toxteth, has been charged with attempted murder x 2, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a controlled drug.
"Jones was remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens adult remand court today, Saturday 5th March.
"The 15-year-old girl remains in hospital in a stable condition."
