A frustrated trucker who deliberately drove at migrants who pelted his lorry with bottles on a road in Calais must face a jail sentence, say prosecutors.

Driver Arpad Levente Jeddi became an international celebrity last year when his dashcam video of him scattering kerbside refugees in the French town became a worldwide sensation.

In the video - which has been watched by more than four million YouTube viewers - the trucker can be heard shouting angrily at the migrants as they run by.

At one point he threatens to stab them if they try to get onto his truck.

Truckers in Calais are regularly ambushed by migrants who try to force them to stop to they can climb on board their vehicles.

During the video, migrants can be seen hurling bottles and missiles at Jeddi's truck, aiming to make him slow down or stop.

Now prosecutors in Jeddi's Hungarian homeland are calling for a suspended jail sentence for the trucker.

They also want him to receive a lengthy driving ban when the dangerous driving case comes to court.

Jeddi was sacked soon after the video first emerged last year, but he has since been hired by another transport firm.

The trucker has angrily defended his actions on social media, saying: "They haven't understood that I didn’t have a chance to respect traffic rules."

He added: "The reason was I was a victim of an open attack, public vandalism. Nobody was hurt and nothing was damaged."
