Monster dad ‘shoots dead his seven-day-old girl because he wanted his first-born to be a boy’

A MONSTER dad allegedly shot dead his seven-day-old daughter because he wanted his first-born to be a boy.

Cops in Pakistan arrested Shahzaib Khan on Thursday, after he was believed to have pulled the trigger on his own newborn baby because of her gender.

The shocking incident reportedly took place in the city of Mianwali, located in Punjab province, on Monday March 7.

The baby's great uncle Hidayatullah Khan told local press: "A baby girl was born... He was infuriated."

The post-mortem revealed that little Jannah, which means 'heaven', was shot five times and was killed instantly.

Rights groups allege that female infanticide is widespread in Pakistan, which occupies a lowly spot on the World Economic Forum's latest Global Gender Gap Report.

Faisal Edhi, who heads the largest social welfare charity group in Pakistan's largest city Karachi, reported that over 500 bodies of infants were found dumped over the past two years. Most were girls.

Families are believed to often not want daughters, given that they are expected to pay dowry when they get married.

And the country has a strong 'honour' culture, whereby a female can easily tarnish her family's 'reputation' through certain behaviours - usually related to sex.

The case has now sparked fury in Pakistan, with locals flooding to social media to share their disgust.

One man wrote: "This is beyond barbaric, brutal and vicious. The only solution to stop this brutality is hanging him publicly."

Another added: "I'm disgusted to the core. I feel terribly for the mother. Look at the beautiful daughter she had. Women lead the world, it's 2022."
