The former Miss Wales swimwear model and her family were horrified at the groom-to-be's insensitivity ahead of this weekend's wedding.
Her stepdad Peter Newnes, 53, has said the whole family are "all gutted by what happened", as he revealed the former Newport rugby player took the blow-up doll to New York as a forfeit.
He told the Mail: "Alex is an educated high-flyer but where was his common sense?
"Kiri is supporting him but we are all gutted by what happened on his stag.
"His mother is gutted too, he's a very intelligent guy, he's no fool.
"But if you look at the photographs you can see he just didn't realise what he was doing."
His fiance Kiri John, 31, has revealed she was left in floods of tears after the photos emerged - but admitted she will still marry her beau The former Miss Wales swimwear model and her family were horrified at the groom-to-be's insensitivity ahead of this weekend's wedding Kiri and Alex, who are from South Wales but live in London, are due to wed at a sprawling Herefordshire country estate this weekend.
The stepdad said despite the "dreadful" timing of his future son-in-law's prank, the wedding will still go ahead.
He described him as "an educated, decent, hard-working young man" and added: "Kiri is upset but she is not making excuses for what he did. It was a ridiculous thing to do.
"We don't agree with what Alex has done but I can assure you that is not him at all."
Alex is said to be "obviously upset" following the prank.
He was on his stag do with banker brother Tom, 29, dad Clive, 66 and a group of pals when the photos were taken.
The group of men were confronted by a police officer and asked to leave the area where the Twin Towers fell after taking selfies with the plastic toy.
When asked what they were doing, Alex reportedly said “it’s just a bachelor party” before answering other questions with “no comment”.

Her husband Thomas F. Hughes Jr, 46, was killed in the atrocity after visiting the 107th floor of the World Trade Centre for a meeting when the plane hit.
His widow said: “I’m speechless.
“I don’t even have any words for that – that’s a disgrace.
“That is sacred ground, I lost my husband and I don’t even know what to say – it’s disgusting.
“We hear things like this and I honestly think it’s disgraceful to take selfies of anybody there laughing and smiling when they haven’t lived the life we’ve lived for 15 years and the people we’ve lost."
